Review 🔍 On A Quiet Street by Seraphina Nova Glass

The perfect neighborhood can be the perfect place to hide…

Who wouldn’t want to live in Brighton Hills? This exclusive community on the Oregon coast is the perfect mix of luxury and natural beauty. Stunning houses nestle beneath mighty Douglas firs, and lush backyards roll down to the lakefront. It’s the kind of place where neighbors look out for one another. Sometimes a little too closely…

Cora thinks her husband, Finn, is cheating—she just needs to catch him in the act. That’s where Paige comes in. Paige lost her son to a hit-and-run last year, and she’s drowning in the kind of grief that makes people do reckless things like spying on the locals, searching for proof that her son’s death was no accident…and agreeing to Cora’s plan to reveal what kind of man Finn really is. All the while, their reclusive new neighbor, Georgia, is acting more strangely every day. But what could such a lovely young mother possibly be hiding?

Brighton Hills is an exclusive community on the Oregon coast whose beautiful appearance is hiding many secrets – including cheating spouses, drug use, abuse, and maybe even murder! Cora Holman thinks her husband Finn is having an affair and enlists her friend Paige Morretti to help her prove it. Paige agrees, but she has problems of her own. Paige is still grieving the death of her son who was killed in a hit and run a year ago, but she is convinced it was no accident. Can the two women help each other and what is their mysterious neighbor, Georgia, hiding?

This book is told from three points-of-view:  Cora, Paige, and Georgia. Both Paige and Cora are curious about their new neighbor Georgia who keeps to herself, raising her baby and rarely leaving the home she shares with her husband Lucas. Everyone in this neighborhood seems to be keeping secrets and these three women are no exception. Just when I thought I knew what was going on, there would be another surprising revelation.

This is the second book I’ve read by this author and as expected, On A Quiet Street is a well-written and suspenseful book. There are also some wonderful moments of humor, especially when Paige is narrating the story. However, the overall mood of this book is sad and there are scenes describing domestic abuse that I found very disturbing. Even the characters who are generally likable make some really strange decisions that are hard to justify. It is clever the way the author connects the stories of all three of the women and everyone’s stories have several twists and turns. The ending is both unexpected and satisfying. Even though I like the suspense and the plot twists, overall the book is darker than I care for. Readers who don’t find domestic violence to be a trigger and who enjoyed Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty, may want to give this book a try.
