Collide
Megan Hart
Heat Level: 6 (Erotic)

A childhood accident left Emmaline vulnerable to disturbing fugue states that last only minutes, but feel like an eternity. The blackouts are unsettling but manageable…until she meets Johnny Dellasandro. The reclusive painter gained notoriety in the '70s for his debauched lifestyle and raunchy art films. His naked body has achieved cult status, especially in Emm's mind—she's obsessed with the man, who's grown even sexier with age. Today Johnny shuns the spotlight and Emm in particular…until she falls into a fugue on his doorstep.

In that moment she's transported back thirty years, crashing a party at Johnny's place in his wild-man heyday— the night is a blur of flesh and heat that lingers on her skin long after she's woken to the present.

It happens again and again, each time-slip another mind-blowing orgy, and soon Emm can't stop, though every episode leaves her weaker and weaker. She's frightened by what's happening to her, but she's even more terrified of losing this portal to the Johnny she wants so badly. The one who wants her, too, and takes her—every chance he gets.

If time travel were any hotter you’d be liable to melt. Collide is a delectable story of love found not just in the present, but in the past.

Emmaline has had reoccurring fugues ever since a playground accident when she was 6. After 2 years of being fugue free and finally moving out of her parent’s house, the fugues come back.  This time each one is more vivid and involved then the last, and now she’s living out her fantasies with the unobtainable catch; Johnny Dellasandro.

Johnny deliberately avoids everyone, especially Emmaline, until she lands in his arms after slip on ice in front of his home and everything spirals out control. Emmaline finds herself back in a time when Johnny was young, careless and wild. It’s just a fantasy so Emmaline lives it to the fullest; even though reality comes crashing back on her each time a fugue occurs.

The experiences leave her drained and exhausted. The fugues become this insane, yet erotic part of her life and in reality Johnny finally becomes aware of her to the extent of starting a relationship. Emmaline wishes the fugues would end so her real future with Johnny can be complete, but what she doesn’t know is that he’s been waiting for her.

This story keeps you reading because you desperately want to know what happens next. There is an emotional back story to Emmaline, as this is her first time living away from her parents and she’s over 30. Being independent for the first time has certain appeals and it makes the story interesting as Emmaline refuses to be brought down by the fugues, even when they get really crazy. Leading to my favorite part of the story:

It was enough to be there with him, making out like we had no place to be and all the time in the world.
Which of course, I did not.

My bladder twinged, first of all, an event that had never happened in my fugues. Laughing, I twisted from Johnny’s insistent grip and left the bed to pad on naked feet to the bathroom. I turned from the doorway to look at him. I blew him a kiss. And when I turned back and stepped through the doorway, I stumbled and fell and ended up on my hands and knees in my front hallway.

I was still naked.

Now the only honest to goodness issue I had with this story was that it takes Emmaline a little while to catch on to some things, and in certain cases then entire story. Being as strong and intelligent as she was, I find this a little unrealistic to the character. But that shouldn’t stop anyone from reading and it sure didn’t stop me. Ultimately as a reader I wanted Emmaline to find her happy ending and I encourage you to find out too.
