Lord Langley is Back in Town
Elizabeth Boyle
Heat Level: 3 (Sensual)

Lord Langley and Minerva, Lady Standon, began their faux engagement with three simple rules set down by the baron's all-too-proper (and utterly unlikely) bride-to-be.

1. No more kissing. The intoxicating kiss Langley stole from her lips still has Minerva aflutter.

2. She will not share his bed. (For if his kiss is that tempting, Minerva doesn't dare imagine what a night in Langley's embrace will do to her already addled senses.)

3. No scandals during their engagement. With the infamous Langley back in Town, there is no lack of trouble he can bring to Minerva's unblemished reputation.

Oh, the wily Lord Langley will keep his word—but that doesn't mean he won't use every rakish trick he knows to get Minerva to break her own proper rules, especially once he realizes that this convenient arrangement has led him to the only woman he's ever loved . . .

A super sexy hero, a heroine in need of a good man and we have a stunning love story with a touch of mystery that will keep you turning pages!

Yet another chapter in the Bachelor Chronicles has closed and in a wonderful way. Technically, this book is the eighth in the series but not all the books need to be read in order to really get what is going on in this book. I do recommend you read them all but, in case you can’t, do try This Rake of Mine, Love Letters from a Duke, Confessions of a Little Black Gown, and Memoirs of a Scandalous Red Dress on for size. The characters in the newest installment of the Chronicles are featured in those books but most importantly, you should read How I Met My Countess and Mad About the Duke which are the two most connected books to this one. I found myself struggling to remember events from previous books while reading this one but, if you are not a stickler for background information, this book could be read on its own.

Ok, now that I have gotten the connected books out of the way… back to Lord Langley is Back in Town and boy am I glad he came back around. This is one delightful love story and I totally synced with the older, more mature hero. All of London thinks that Baron Langley is long dead including Minerva, Lady Standon. But when the notorious rake literally lands in her bed and basically compromises the staid, determined widow, the two embark on a faux engagement that quickly turns into something much more. Readers will remember the “nannies” from previous books and all five women storm the Standon house waiting for Langley, hoping to win him back. But he only has eyes for Minerva even if she wants nothing to do with him. But his life is in danger and together they must solve the mystery of who initially tried to murder him and reported him dead so many years before and who will stop at nothing to finally see the deed done.

I really liked the detailed and complex plot that kept me on my toes. The addition of the “nannies” and the role that one of them plays in the attempts on Langley’s life is a great twist and had me guessing right up until the truth was revealed. I love it when a book can truly surprise me. The plot moves at a great pace with just the right elements of love and mystery. The characters are also well written with the author giving her readers a chance to get to know not just the main characters but many of the secondary characters as well.

Minerva always came across as too stern and uptight in the other books so I was very happy to see her come out of her shell. I was surprised by how much I liked that proud, determined woman. Langley, as I mentioned, is a mature hero who really makes the book. I will be the first to say that he was a swine in years past but you grow to love him and his passion for Minerva. Hardened rakes fall the hardest, and this spy has met his match in Minerva. Their love story is not overly passionate or fierce but their devotion to each other matched the overall tone of the book well and left me very satisfied with the ending.

Overall, this final Bachelor Chronicles installment may not have been the best but with great characters, a well developed and thought-out plot line, and an ultra hot older man this book is definitely worth the read!
