Warrior Betrayed
Addison Fox
Heat Level: 4 (Hot)

As Montana Grant struggles to lead her late father's company, her estranged mother suddenly reappears, spouting nonsense about Mount Olympus, immortal warriors, and curses. But after an event that puts the company's future-and Montana's life-at risk, she decides to take her mother's last but of advice.

Quinn Tanner is Montana's security specialist-and a Taurus Warrior. With worldwide peace hanging in the balance, it's up to Quinn to help Montana rise to her destiny-even as they're falling in love.

In the Sons of the Zodiac series, immortal warriors lead by Themis, goddess of law and justice, are charged with protecting mankind from the forces of Enyo, a goddess of war.   Quinn Tanner is a Taurus warrior, the self-appointed leader of one of the North American warrior groups and stubborn to a fault.  That stubbornness prevented him from helping out one of his warrior brothers in the past during an incident with potentially lethal consequences.  While his friend survived and the situation was resolved, Quinn continues to blame himself for his shortcomings.  He immersed himself in his security business partly to keep a distance between himself and the rest of the warriors whom he feels he has failed.  While monitoring their city for unusual paranormal activity, Quinn becomes aware of Montana Grant.

Montana Grant is a shipping heiress who has recently gained control of her father’s company.  She has an uncanny ability to negotiate peace treaties which allowed her company access to even the most war torn areas of the world.  Things are not always what they seem, and Montana’s family history is proving to be more dangerous than she ever imagined.  Now someone wants her dead.  It is up to Quinn to figure out who and why before the woman he is coming to care for more than anything else in the worlds is killed.

Warrior Betrayed is the third in the Sons of the Zodiac series by Addison Fox.  The book is filled with intrigue and action.  The references to Greek mythology are plentiful.  The characters in the story, both the main and the secondary ones, are interesting and easy for the reader to care for.  And that is where we find a problem.  The story is so focused on the action and the mystery of what is causing the attacks on Montana, that a lot of the opportunities for more romantic interludes are lost.  I am not solely referring to the more carnal episodes, although there are few of those. There are more episodes filled with sexual tension than actual physical relations.  It would have been nice to see more interactions between the characters where the two of them had a chance to become closer, instead of constantly speaking of the danger at hand.  I know it may not be realistic given the danger Montana was in.  However, you have to wonder how those two fell in love so quickly when they barely had time to interact in anything other than work mode.  It may be hypercritical, but it just seemed to me that the novel could have used a little more in the romance department.  I would have liked to see more relationship building in the midst of the action or at least in the lulls between battles.

Warrior Betrayed was very entertaining.  The romance that we see in the book is very sweet and hot, while not over the top.  The plot moves at an uneven pace, but it seems to work in this case.  All in all, the book is a solid installment for the series, even if it is not a stand-out volume.  The series itself continues to show a lot of promise and I will be keeping an eye out for the next novel.
