Bastian: The Lords of Satyr
Elizabeth Amber
Heat Level: 5 (Scorching)

Infamous for his archaeological finds in the Roman Forum and more highly sexed than most of his kind, Bastian is admired and envied. Yet he is tortured by visions.

Silvia has ties to the Vestal Virgins and seeks to use him to locate a powerful artifact. But she never expected or wanted to love him. For she cannot have him. Bastian belongs to her dearest friend.

Bastian, Sevin, Dane, and Lucien begin the tale of a new satyr clan in 1880s Rome.

A Satyr is a mythical creature that on the full moon goes through the Change where they grow a second phallus and their sexual desires that already run hot, practically explode with lust. These men throw off sexual heat that could make a woman swoon. And Bastian, the eldest Satyr, is no different.

Bastian is in charge of an archeological dig where he is searching for the Temple of Vesta and the powerful stones buried within it. He believes that it is the firestones that help protect the mythical creatures and the ElseWorld from the human world. What he doesn’t know is that someone else also want the firestones that were buried in the temple.

Silvia, an Ephemeral and former Vestal Virgin, is sent to uncover the firestones to help free her fellow Vestal sisters. An Ephemeral is a person or spirit who enter people’s bodies when they are close to death in order to move about the human world. Using her Ephemeral state to be invisible and enter Bastian’s house, Silvia finds Michaela, her best friend who is also an Ephemeral, together with Bastian. Silvia is shocked to see that Michaela has given up her Ephemeral state to become mortal and be Bastian’s mistress.  Using different hosts, Silvia maneuvers her way into the dig site to help speed up the recovery of the temple so she can get the stones. But Silvia, as a Virgin, wasn’t planning on her fierce attraction to Bastian, especially since he is with Michaela.

There is turmoil in the ElseWorld and when tragedy strikes, Silvia gets her chance to be with Bastian the way she has longed for but this means losing her friend and giving up her virginity, something that has been scared to her. Of course this all happens on the night of the full moon when Bastian and his brothers go through the Change. It’s during this full moon that Bastian realizes something is different because he is seeing color with Michaela.

Bastian is colorblind, something he has hidden from everyone, including his family.  Only seeing the world in black, white and shades of gray he is stunned when he starts seeing flashes of color. He remembers that when a young boy showed up at the dig site he saw color in whatever the boy touched color. Then during the full moon he saw Michaela in color when he never had before. What follows is a race to find the firestones and for Bastian to find out just who this new Michaela is.

Bastian started off a bit slow and I found myself getting distracted by the flashbacks. I also have a slight issue with the whole Bastian and Michaela affair. I don’t want to say too much, only that I understand why they were together but it stilled bothered me. I guess I’m a purist when it comes to romance novels and the hero and heroine being together.

I really wanted to be blown away by Bastian. I was expecting scorching lovemaking scenes, I mean the Satyrs are known for being sexual beasts and even grow a second phallus. There is a very sexy scene between Silvia and Michaela that shows just how much they love each other.

I do think that Bastian and Silvia are perfect for each other and when they are together, even with Silvia being in different hosts, they just meshed. My favorite was when she was Rico, the young boy thief. The chemistry between them is intense and even though Bastian is an erotic romance the key thing is that there is romance between the two.

Bastian is book 6 in The Lords of Satyr series but if you are worried about being confused if you haven’t read the previous books don’t be. Elizabeth Amber does a good job of explaining the ElseWorld that new readers to the series will not be lost but it wouldn’t hurt to read any of the previous books just to get some background on the Satyrs. If you are a fan of The Lords of Satyr series then I’m sure you won’t want to miss Bastian. For me, I was more intrigued by Lucian and his dark past. I hope he gets a book.
