Zenobia is now forced into a situation she can’t prevent and desperately wanting to help those she cares about volunteers to join the illustrious Kraken King, Ariq, on a journey across the wilds of Australia. There’s danger to her secrets and her person, as they travel outside of the safety of Krakentown’s walls. Ariq is determined to learn all her secrets and he’s so much fun/strength in a hot, large package. Our protective, expedition leader is hiding plenty of secrets of his own, and watching him and Zenobia go back and forth is as much of a pleasure as a torture.
My favorite line: He hadn’t been afraid of the boilerworm, but he had felt fear: when he’d seen her beside the burning tree, and he’d realized that she’d sent the boilerworm on a path straight toward her.
