I have to say that I bought this book because of all the great buzz it was getting when it was released. I was a tad squeamish because the hero had been in asylum due to his ‘rages’. Premises like that usually don’t appeal to me, but I was in the mood to try something different, and I’m so happy I did. I completely understand why this book won. It’s the first book in Jennifer’s Mackenzie series and I’m anticipating the second book, Lady Isabella’s Scandalous Marriage with bated breath. No, seriously, I’m not kidding. You will too once you read this book. So, if you don’t win a copy today, The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie is definitely worth a visit to an online book store.

  1. The two historicals that made my Best of 2009 were Goddess of the Hunt and A Hint of Wicked. I gave an honorable mention to The Education of Madeline by Beth Williamson. Surprisingly, almost everything on my list was a contemporary, which is rare for me. I also had 2 non-romances on my list for 2009: The Kite Runner and Rage Against the Meshugenah.

  3. I heard SO many great tings about The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie and its been on my wishlist since forever it seems. I have someone close to me with the same “condition” and would love to read Ian’s story.

    Romances I really liked are: What Happens in London by Julia Quinn & According to Jane by Marilyn Brant + The Perfect Poison by Amanda Quick. (All in random order.)

  8. The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie sounds very intriguing to me. Sort of reminiscent of Laura Kinsale’s Flowers From the Storm, an all-time favorite for me. I can’t wait to read it.

    Two of my favorites for 2009 were The Naked Baron by Sally Mackenzie and The Spymaster’s Lady by Joanna Bourne.

  9. I’ve heard so many great things about this book. I can’t wait to get my hands on it. One book that stood out for me was GOTH by Tessa Dare. Surprisingly, most of my favorites of 2009 were contemporaries.

  12. I’ve been wanting to read this book for a long time. It’s gotten rave reviews from so many people!

    Last year was a terrific year for romance. A few of my favorite historicals were Surrender of a Siren by Tessa Dare, Captive of Sin by Anna Campbell, Tempt Me at Twilight by Lisa Kleypas and Never Love a Lawman by Jo Goodman.

Almost immediately, I regretted that and decided to replace it. (You know that a book that stays with you long after you’ve read it needs to be added to the Keeper list.)

    I think I’m the paperback DOM – I’m a voracious reader; the books that stand out for 2009 to me are Anna Campbell’s – Captive of Sin, Eloisa James’s – A Duke Of Her Own, and Julia Quinn’s – What Happens In London. The characters in each of these books came to life; now that says something about the authors’ talent.

  16. Sounds interesting! I love the asylum aspect…the ‘odd’ heroes are sometimes the most interesting characters to read about! Unconventional, but always charming!

    2009 favorites? I really enjoyed To Desire A Devil by Elizabeth Hoyt. I love the Legend of the Four Soldiers series. I didn’t read too many other historicals last year…paranormal seems to take precedent last year. This year I think I’ve switched back to historicals. I guess I have book mood swings!

  20. Oh my goodness what can I choose from there were so many historical romances that came out last there’s just too many to count but I guess I can choose some. One of my favorites were Captive of Sin by Anna Campbell, Goddess of the Hunt by Tessa Dare, Edge of Hunger, Edge of Danger, and Edge of Desire by Rhyannon Byrd. Well I guess I better stop before the list gets too long and I would love to be entered into this contest for this book it sounds interesting.

  24. I’ve already read and have this book so don’t enter me. ^^ I have say i don’t really know the best of 2009 for me, but this book wasn’t it. I loved Ian, but i hated Ian’s and Beth’s relationship. Never really worked for me. More friends with benefits.

  48. Hi. I had several books I just loved and wanted to read again. Anna Campbell’s “Captive of Sin”, Sherry Thomas’ “Not Quite a Husband”, Eloisa James’ “This Duchess of Mine”, Tessa Dare’s “Goddess of the Hunt”, and Meredith Duran’s “Written on Your Skin” were all wonderful reads. I’ve kept them separated so I can easily reread them. What great books!!!

  49. Anna Campbell’s Captive of Sin is definitely on my best of 2009 list. I don’t have other books immediately popping to mind but Anna’s book really hit the spot.
