Liam Montgomery is at one of his friend’s wedding when he is struck in a freak accident by one of the scaffolding. In the emergency room he shares a room with an attractive woman. He gets her phone number with every intention of calling her but he receives news that shakes his entire life.

Arden Brady isn’t shock that Liam didn’t call her. She spends most of her time alone at home working on her research company or with her four big brooding brothers. She has her “online” friends who support her but life hasn’t been so kind to her. She suffers from an autoimmune disease and having relationships is a struggle for her.

I have never read any of the Montgomery books despite owning a few of them. I’m now kicking myself. This was such a heartwarming read. Liam bumps into Arden in his neighborhood and apologizes for not calling her. They strike up a friendship that turns into more.

Normally, I shy away from books that have some heavy subject matters especially those surrounding illnesses. It is a trigger of sorts for me but this one never once distracted from the romance. I didn’t get depressed over reading this. In fact, it felt so real that I loved how the author handled the subject matter. Knowing someone who personally suffers from the same illness as Arden, I can appreciate how it was written.

Liam’s anger over the secret that his family withheld from him was so real. He didn’t shy away from the fact that he loved his family but sometimes lies and secrets can irrevocably shape how a relationship is. He is able to eventually forgive but it will be a long time before he is okay. I like how the issue was not brushed under the rug and all is forgiven.

Arden and Liam’s relationship feels real because they are both struggling with outside issues as they forge a genuine friendship. The sex between them is hot. For two people who spend most of the times in the house, they lit it up.

The two families share some of the spotlight without taking up too much space. I definitely want more of the Montgomery family but I’m curious about Arden’s brothers. They seem to have huge personalities and I look forward to them having their own series (fingers crossed). In the meantime, I have a nice back log to hold me over.
