by Bev, thanks so much for having me back again to discuss the last book in the Courtesan Court series, Master of Sin! I’ve moved off Jane Street with this one—very far off. The story is set on a remote island in the Sea of the Hebrides off the coast of Scotland. There are no expensive mistresses around, just sheep and seagulls and Gaelic-speaking fishermen. How did sophisticated sinner Andrew wind up there?
You met Andrew in Mistress by Marriage—he was as far from hero material as could possibly be. He was Caroline Christie’s unhappy past, and his own amoral present. As the back cover of the book says: “Andrew Rossiter has used his gorgeous body and angelic face for all they’re worth – shocking the proper, seducing the willing, and pleasuring the wealthy.” But all that changes when his secret son’s life is threatened. Andrew has to rise to the occasion and find the man he was always meant to be.
He thinks if he can hide, he can protect his child. But he can’t hide and protect himself from Gemma Peartree, the unusual governess that Edward Christie has hired to help him. She teaches him the one thing he’s never known—love.
Gemma believes in destiny, and her duty to see that Andrew’s soul is saved…one kiss at a time. Here’s an excerpt:
Fate had not been kind to him thus far. But she was here now.
He had been saved for her, but she didn’t dare tell him that. He would think her quite mad, but she was a big believer in Fate. Her mother had often said things happen for a reason, even if the reason was not immediately apparent or seemed hopelessly wrong. It had been Fate that caused her to see the London List advertisement for a governess buried amongst the others, Fate that brought her to this isolated island splendor, Fate that had her standing trembling with nerves and cold by the side of Andrew’s bed.
Redeeming Andrew was not an easy job for Gemma or me, LOL. But I hope readers will enjoy his journey to a much-deserved happily-ever-after.

I think we make our own fates by choosing the way we react to the random things that happen in our lives. Some things can’t be controlled, but mostly I believe that our fates are our own.
I don’t believe in fate. I believe we make our own choices.
I believe that we all have a life path. What we do with it is up to us but opportunities do come our way. For example, I met my future husband when he was dating my room mate. A year later we saw each other passing on a sidewalk. We talked. He called. Two years later we married. If I hadn’t already met him chances are we would have just passed each other by while walking down the street.

Good morning, ladies! I see we’re getting very philosophical here on Monday morning! I think I agree with the combination of random/”meant to be.” So many “lucky” things have happened to me it does make me wonder if there isn’t some sort of plan somewhere. As they say, timing is everything!
Congrats on your new release ! I definitely believe in fate everything happens for a reason as I believe that God has a hand in everything and that to me is fate ! Nothing is a random event if it was I think like could get a little too complicated , as then we would all be sitting around waiting for that random event to pop up instead of just living life to the full and letting fate happen when it is suppose to ,I hope that makes sense !

I think things happen for a reason – we don’t always know what the reason is/was, but somehow it all manages to make sense in the end.
I dont’ know if I have ever said something happens because of fate, however I do believe in karma. I can’t wait to read their story. Thank you so much for the note about Neddy. Yes I read the short Christmas story and loved it. Thank you so much.

I love your books! I think we are given choices in life and how we choose makes all the difference! This choice becomes our fate, sometimes happy and sometimes very sad!

I’m not sure I believe in fate quite like Gemma, but close. While reading the excerpt I could I picture myself changing “Mother” to “Father” in that sentance as that was my father’s attitude. Use to drive my mom nuts on occasions, but even she admitted once or twice that it seemed to be true. Of course that didn’t keep her from being annoyed by the fact that my brother & I also have that attitude 😉

I think it a little bit of both, fate and choices. Though mostly your choices. My husband always says he had to meet and be with his first wife in order to eventually find me, which is kind of true…if they hadn’t got together and then divorced he would never have ended up in ‘Yankee north’ and would have stayed in Mississippi or Tennessee.
Interesting. At the end of this bok Andrew realizes he wouldn’t trade a minute of his sordid past if it meant giving up his future with Gemma! I think the bad makes us appreciated the good all the more.
I don’t believe in fate. I do believe that we are all responsible for our own actions.
I believe that fate and our choices may work together. We might choice a road that leads to what is meant to be.
As a Christian, I believe that while we have free choice and are completely responsible for what we choose to do, I do also believe that there’s a greater plan than my own in play–if that’s also “fate,” then yes, I do think that things happen for a reason, whether or not I know at the time what that reason might be. Sounds like Gemma and Andrew’s journey was meant to be 😉 Congratulations on Master of Sin, Maggie!
I believe there is no such thing as coincidence. No event in life is random.
I believe both. I think fate has a lot of do with what happens to us. I think if it is something that is meant to be then fate will do what is right. But then I think somethings are just random. You could be walking down the street one day and meet someone, but of course that is just random. Fate and random stuff happen all the time. Would love to win and read this book. Congratulations on the release of this last book in the series….now I can start reading them! I don’t really believe in coincidence and lean more towards things happen for a reason. Has anyone watched this new TV program on FOX titled ‘Touch”? It stars Keifer Sutherland and so far, it seems to be a pretty good program. It goes along the lines of this blog…all things happen for a reason with things and people being tied together to make a particular event happen.
Karen! You are way stronger than I would ever be holding off on reading a series until they’re all the books are released, LOL. I do try to make each book a standalone so they don’t really have to be read in order. However, I do love it when publishers release a series over a short time period–I hate to wait!
Yes, I believe in fate. I believe that the big events in life were pretty much going to happen one way or another. How we handle them is our free choice. I have always felt that life was for learning and so much of what we experience is fated in order for us to experience those lessons.
I think we make our own fate. We are constantly making decisions every day and each decision leads to the journey we take. And it’s how we live and look upon these decions I think that make us what we are. If you have an opptimistic attidude no matter what happens then I think you can believe that it is as it should be and would have been.
I always believe things happen for a reason, and that were never given too much we can’t handle. This books like quite the read and look forward to reading it. Fate is one of those words in which i could be or good. I like that he knows she was made for him, where as my husband knows i was made to drive him crazy..lol Congrats on the new book, i wish you and it much success!!

I do think fate plays a part. I’ve had instances where I felt I had the worst luck EVER. But something better came my way because I didn’t get what I *thought* I wanted. If I hadn’t missed out on the first opportunity then I wouldn’t have found the next!
This has happened to me, too. Sometimes it’s good we don’t get what we want.
Fate gives us options. Free will gives us the wisdom to choose correctly for what circumstances dictate.

Do I believe in fate? I believe God has a plan for us. He tries to guide us in the right direction, yet, we do have the choice of free will.

I don’t really believe in fate, but sometimes it does seem that things happen for a reason, As they say, when one door closes, another door opens and that has happened to me quite a few times in the past.
I like to believe that there’s a reason behind things in our lives happening, no matter how random.
I think fate may be possible but I also think things sometimes just happen randomly.
I think we make our own choices.
I think we make our own choice but other peoples actions impact our actions and reactions
I believe in Fate. I dated my husband in high school and we went our separate ways for college. 10 years later we got back together and have been married 20 years. Fate had to play a part in there because we were living in separate states!

I think life is a combination of Fate causing things to happen and the Fairy of Randomness inserting her disruptive little self. Looking at just our lives, there are things that just fell into place like they always should have happened. It didn’t always happen smoothly and that was the fairy’s fault. Those fateful events are often surrounded by chaos that fate would never have decreed. I wouldn’t want an existence that was totally fated to happen. That takes a bit of our freewill out of it. At least Miss Fairy gives us a fighting chance to make things what we want them.
Ha. I like the idea of the Fairy of Randomness. Sounds like the beginnings of a new fairy tale!
Fate is so mysterious. We can’t guess what will happen next or now. Some people say we can create our fate. In my opinion, human can plan anything but it depends on God, who will decide everyrhing. Sometimes a bad thing happened but it’s for our good. We realize it after sometime that what we experienced shape us to be a tough person.
I do believe in fate and luck but I think it’s only part of happiness. The other part is time and a will which we can control.

Neither. I think for the great majority of my life, I made both my happiness and unhappiness. Fate and random had little to do with it.
