To Rebecca Winters, it\u2019s not just a saying or the title to a catchy tune, it\u2019s a rule she staunchly lives by. Especially since the breakup with her ex. What\u2019s the point in trying to fix the \u201cunfixable\u201d? Besides, only a girl hell-bent on more heartbreak would go back to the guy who bailed on her when she needed him most. But saying no to Scott is becoming more difficult than surviving the breakup itself. And unfortunately for her, the kind of pressure he’s exerting is making her rule all too easy to break.<\/p>\n

Scott Carver has given up trying to get over his ex. He\u2019s still in love with her and their year apart has done nothing to change that. Yeah, he knows he screwed up. Just how royally, he wasn’t aware of until now. So when Becca agrees to give him a second chance, he grabs on to it with both hands. But it\u2019s clear the only way things will ever truly be right between them is if he comes clean\u2026about everything. \u201cThat ass hit me in the back. Is that the kind of guy you\u2019re hooking up with these days. Pansy-ass jerks whose idea of fighting is knifing a guy in the back.\u201d His nostrils are flaring so I know Scott\u2019s in a rage. \u201cWhat the hell were you doing with him, Bec? You don\u2019t even know the guy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWell how do you think you get to know someone.\u201d I know I\u2019m being a bitch but it\u2019s like I can\u2019t stop myself from trying to hurt him. Hit him where he\u2019s vulnerable.<\/span><\/p>\n

His eyes darken and his hand whips out grabbing my wrist. Before I know it I\u2019m being hauled into his arms, my breasts pressed up against his hard chest. \u201cIf sex is what you\u2019re looking for, I\u2019m right here. You don\u2019t have to get it from some guy who\u2019s been with half the girls in the school. You know me and I know you and sex is the one thing that was always good between us.\u201d Despite the sexy growl of his voice and his erection hard against my stomach, I can tell by the hard glint in his eyes that he\u2019s still angry.<\/span><\/p>\n

He\u2019s turned on and pissed off. The throbbing between my legs renews. But I know I can\u2019t let anything happen between us. No matter how much I might want to.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf I wanted to have sex with you believe me, you\u2019d know,\u201d I lie. I so do want. \u00a0\u201cNow I just want you to get your clothes on and get out of my apartment.\u201d I pull out of his arms and his hands drop from my waist to his sides.<\/span><\/p>\n

If he was about to say something, my words stop him. Several moments of silence follow as we stare at each other. With his expression wiped clean of emotion, his bristled jaw firm and his mouth unsmiling, he\u2019s nearly impossible to read.<\/span><\/p>\n

After a few more beats, Scott shakes his head, which does little to disturb his bedhead hair. \u201cWe need to talk.\u201d His voice is rough and low. He\u2019s not asking, it\u2019s a demand.<\/span><\/p>\n

My stomach drops. I\u2019m conscious of what I\u2019m not wearing: things like a bra, pants and underwear that don\u2019t leave both my butt cheeks bare. Of course, then there\u2019s the lack of Scott\u2019s clothing, the erection he can\u2019t hide and the fact that he looks just as good tousled as he does all dressed up or in worn blue jeans. This is not a good place for me to be. Which is why I\u2019ve done my best to avoid him since last summer. Since I broke it off.<\/span><\/p>\n

I clear my throat and try to collect my thoughts. \u201cWell I don\u2019t want to talk,\u201d I say and make a move to go around him.<\/span><\/p>\n

He grabs my arm just below the elbow. I shiver at the contact, briefly closing my eyes. I can\u2019t let him know how he still affects me so I turn my head when he pulls me firmly but gently toward him. \u201cTalk to me, Becca,\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

His low plea has the power to make me forget. But only for a short time. How am I going to learn from my mistakes if I continue to make the same ones with the same person?<\/span><\/p>\n

God, this is just too hard. I shake my head in denial because I can\u2019t see there\u2019s anything more to say.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n
