The heroine&#8217;s coquettish look over the shoulder. Nice.\u00a0 Provocative. Seemingly innocent. Then I read the back cover blurb. Now I&#8217;m completely intrigued. Older woman, younger man. But wait, the girl on the cover doesn&#8217;t look more than twenty. Never mind that, it works. \ud83d\ude42 I&#8217;m too impatient to go to the book store, so I download it immediately. I read it in two days (hey, I was busy writing and revising my life away). I adored it. The beginning took my breath away. Can you really start a book like that?\u00a0 It gave me ideas for the future&#8230; Suffice it enough to say, wonderful debut. So without further ado, dear readers,\u00a0 please welcome <span style=\"color: #b76e92;\"><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.laviniakent.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lavinia Kent<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/span> to <strong>The Season&#8217;s Blog<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.laviniakent.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-366\" title=\"laviniakent\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/smittenbybooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/laviniakent.jpg?resize=177%2C234\" alt=\"laviniakent\" width=\"177\" height=\"234\" \/><\/a>I am not sure if this is a blog about villains or about point of view.\u00a0 I definitely started out planning to write about villains and why I love them.\u00a0 But then I realized that what I really love is how different points of view change a story.\u00a0\u00a0 I adore it when I am absolutely convinced a character is evil and then the picture twists. I start to see the world through their eyes and suddenly everything isn\u2019t so black and white.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t know if anybody has read any of George R.R. Martins\u2019 \u201cSong of Ice and Fire\u201d series, but he is a champion at this.\u00a0 A character will seem completely without redemption and then suddenly the reader is in his point of view for several hundred pages.\u00a0 Everybody the reader assumed was good now has sinister overtones and all the evil deeds are explained.\u00a0\u00a0 The character still may not be a \u201cgood guy\u201d but the reader understands and sympathizes with his every action.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve dreamed of writing a book like this for years and thought I knew what it would be.\u00a0 Of course life \u2013 and books \u2013 rarely turn out quite the way I intend.<\/p>\n<p>My debut novel, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>A Talent for Sin<\/strong><\/span>, features a heroine, Violet Carrington, who was forced, by her brother, to marry an elderly man\u2013forced not once but twice, marrying again after her first husband dies.\u00a0\u00a0 The book takes place years later when Violet, again a widow, takes a younger lover who wishes to marry her.\u00a0 Violet is convinced that she has nothing to gain by marriage and changing her mind takes some very passionate persuading.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: large;\"><strong>A Talent for Sin<\/strong><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.laviniakent.com\/excerpt_sin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-360\" title=\"atalentforsin_web\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/smittenbybooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/atalentforsin_web.jpg?resize=199%2C320\" alt=\"atalentforsin_web\" width=\"199\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium; color: #800000;\">Author: Lavinia Kent<br \/>\nPublisher: Avon<br \/>\nPub. I don&#8217;t normally read medievals. I&#8217;m squeamish (my own fault entirely) and they tend to have too much fighting for my tastes. But when my friend <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jackiebarbosa.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jackie Barbosa <\/a><\/em>(who is well aware of my very particular  tastes)\u00a0 highly recommended Margaret&#8217;s  medieval as one I would enjoy, I bought it the next day(I&#8217;m no dummy). Now I&#8217;m HOOKED on <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.margaretmallory.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Margaret Mallory<\/a><\/strong><\/em> and her valiant knights, beautiful heroines and wonderfully compelling love stories. December can&#8217;t come soon enough for me to get my hands on <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Knight of Pleasure<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 By the way, have you seen the gorgeous cover!
