Her pulse accelerated as she recognized Bluth, the leader of Tyrone\u2019s Marauders. He sported a wide-brimmed black hat, militia-style clothes, and a weapons belt bristling with armaments. A hostile scowl creased his ugly face, a face that had haunted her dreams forever.<\/p>\n<p>Shutting one eye, she took careful aim through the targeting sight of her TechVix LD-6 Sharpshooter Special.<\/p>\n<p>Her gut clenched, and she steeled herself to fire. Just as her finger twitched on the trigger, a shadowy figure dove into her. The impact knocked her to the ground. She dropped the rifle, but not before it discharged a wild shot.<\/p>\n<p>A heavy weight toppled across her body, forcing her spine down against the packed earth. Tiny pebbles dug into the small of her back. Brittle pine needles pierced her skin. So much for the protective jumpsuit she\u2019d worn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me up.\u201d She shoved at the bulk immobilizing her. Unable to break free, she aimed a string of expletives toward the man whose furious green eyes glared down at her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho the devil are you?\u201d he demanded, his thick dark brows inched together in an angry scowl.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI could ask you the same.\u201d Silver\u2019s hand scrabbled in the dirt, searching for her fallen weapon. \u201cAre you one of Bluth\u2019s men?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo.\u201d His thighs pressed her firmly to the ground.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen get off me so I can finish what I started.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly after you tell me why you\u2019re here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Panic seized her as she faced the possibility of failure.\u00a0 \u201cAll I need is one clear shot, then we\u2019ll talk.\u201d She thrust at his broad chest, but he wouldn\u2019t budge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re worried about Bluth getting away, it\u2019s too late.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?\u201d Silver lifted her head to peer over the crest of the hill.
