{"id":6060,"date":"2011-02-24T07:48:14","date_gmt":"2011-02-24T12:48:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theseasonforromance.com\/wordpress\/?p=6060"},"modified":"2011-02-24T07:48:14","modified_gmt":"2011-02-24T12:48:14","slug":"julia-london-gives-us-a-light-at-winters-end","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/smittenbybooks.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/24\/julia-london-gives-us-a-light-at-winters-end\/","title":{"rendered":"Julia London gives us A Light At Winter&#8217;s End"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Bond of Sisterhood<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I had two older sisters whom I adored from my earliest memory.\u00a0 I thought they were the coolest people on the planet, even when they had shut me out of their rooms and told me to go away.\u00a0 As we got older, the relationships matured, and we became the best of friends.\u00a0 There was nothing I wouldn\u2019t tell my sisters.\u00a0 They were the two people on this earth who accepted me exactly as I was and still loved me.\u00a0 They understood me like no man could ever do.\u00a0 We had each other\u2019s back, we trusted each other completely.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.julialondon.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6068\" title=\"summeroftwowishes\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theseasonforromance.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/summeroftwowishes.jpg?resize=150%2C242\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"242\" \/><\/a>My oldest sister died unexpectedly in 2009, and it was only after she passed that I learned from my other sister that there had been a fairly traumatic conflict between them when they were in high school and I was still trying to find my locker in middle school.\u00a0 It had to do with a boy and with trust and it was, apparently, a Big Event.<\/p>\n<p>I was stunned by this revelation.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t believe it had happened, or that neither of them had ever told me in all those years.\u00a0 But mostly, I couldn\u2019t believe that they had gotten over it and had become as close as they were.\u00a0 I always knew the bonds of sisterhood were pretty darn thick and full of muscle fibers, but this proved it.\u00a0 The bond between my sisters was tested, but it did not snap.\u00a0 It was severely sprained, but with some rest and care, it healed and was stronger than before.\u00a0\u00a0 In the thirty years that followed, my sisters were each other\u2019s best friends.\u00a0 And my surviving sister, like me, was devastated with third leg of our three-legged stool broke off and disappeared from our lives.<br \/>\nIn a <em>Light at Winter\u2019s End<\/em>, two sisters are engaged in an extraordinary conflict when one leaves her baby with the other and disappears.\u00a0 That is some pretty heavy stuff, and even though I wrote the book thinking how grateful I was that I\u2019d never been through anything like that with my sisters, I thought the Fisher sisters would probably be okay, because that\u2019s how strong the bond is.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know this for sure, because I don\u2019t get that far in the book.\u00a0 But I am pretty sure that if they could survive what I put them through in this book, they could survive anything.\u00a0 That\u2019s what sisters do, I think.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6063\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6063\" style=\"width: 220px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Light-at-Winters-End\/dp\/1451606842\/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1298551302&amp;sr=1-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6063 \" title=\"alightatwinters\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/theseasonforromance.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/alightatwinters.jpg?resize=220%2C355\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"355\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6063\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Click to purchase from Amazon<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Holly Fisher opens her door one day and finds her estranged sister Hannah standing there with a glassy look and her nine-month old baby on her hip.
