Sebastian Goddard, the Duke of Roxbury, has spent a decadent decade running away from his responsibilities, while Frederica Wells has tended the home fires of disintegrating Goddard Castle. Those fires blaze upon Sebastian\u2019s return, and Freddie\u2019s world widens in a journey of sensual discovery. Both of them learn something about themselves along the way to their unconventional happily-ever-after.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6117\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6117\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/smittenbybooks.com\/march2011_1.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6117\" title=\"Any Wicked Thing\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/smittenbybooks.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/Any-Wicked-Thing.jpg?resize=250%2C381\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"381\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6117\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Click for book details and buy links<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Oh, don\u2019t get me wrong. There are three children in the epilogue, but Sebastian will never be anything else but wicked. His needs, however, are fully satisfied by his wife. As he says in the last chapter, <em>\u201cShe was more than enough. She was everything.\u201d<\/em> While I might be suspicious in real life that a sensible medieval scholar like Freddie could tame a man like Sebastian, it was utter romance to succeed within the pages of a book. I am a sucker for reforming the rake, and Sebastian required more reformation than most. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>But a bad boy would be no fun if he lost all his wicked ways. That\u2019s what attracts us to begin with, even if such a bad boy might be uncomfortable to live with in reality. I read and write fiction to venture out of familiar territory, be it losing myself in the Yorkshire moors around Goddard Castle or in Sebastian\u2019s bed. I can indulge my fantasies without falling into a sink hole or putting my back out. I like my \u201cmod cons\u201d as they say in British real estate ads, but I write historical romance, where modern conveniences and sensibilities are seriously absent.<\/p>\n<p>Take Goddard Castle. It\u2019s falling down daily. Freddie wants to buy it because it\u2019s the only home she\u2019s ever known and she will do <em>any wicked thing<\/em> to get it. But it\u2019s a far cry from a well-kept keep. The secrets it holds are key to her happy ending, if the ceiling doesn\u2019t collapse on her first and Sebastian doesn\u2019t lock her away like Rapunzel in her tower.<\/p>\n<p>Have you ever visited a castle and imagined yourself as its chatelaine?
