Many of you are aware that my dear husband, Mr. D, became quite popular last year with his famous Romance Husband (RH) interviews. \u00a0The idea was his.\u00a0 After being a guest on my blog, and that post going viral, he saw just how interested romance readers are in learning about the man behind the romance authors we love.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m blessed. My husband has been so supportive of my career. He reads my books, gives great feedback, and enthusiastically tosses out many ideas over our coffees at Starbucks.\u00a0 Some ideas have been awesome\u2014like his RH interviews (seriously, you must Google \u201cMr. D\u2019s RH interviews\u201d because they\u2019re hilarious).<\/p>\n

Yet, other ideas he\u2019s had were not so great. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

He suggested I point out these \u201cgems\u201d that didn\u2019t make the cut in UNDONE (historical romance), my latest book in the Fiery Tales series, and let you decide.<\/p>\n

So, here are Mr D\u2019s suggestions I vetoed in my steamy, romantic Rapunzel retelling:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. More cannon fights. There is only one cannon fight in the entire book. And it\u2019s kind of brief.\u00a0 Mr. D, \u201cMore cannon fights can only make a romance novel better!\u201d <\/em>[Lila: Ah, no. No, they wouldn\u2019t.]<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. There aren\u2019t pages of descriptions and details about Spanish ships. Mr. D read up on Spanish galleons for me and according to him, \u201cWho doesn\u2019t want to read tons of facts about big ships? Right? Hello? \u2026.\u201d<\/em> [Lila shakes her head.]<\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. There are no dungeons. Mr. D feels, \u201cDungeons ought to be in every book, because dungeons are cool.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 [Lila: Nothing says romance like some pestilence. *shudders* ]<\/strong><\/li>\n
  4. \u201cThere\u2019s not a single skull-shaped watch in the story.\u201d<\/em> We discovered one in the Louvre Museum during our trip to Paris. It was circa the time period of UNDONE and it was amazing. [Lila: Maybe next time, honey.]<\/strong><\/li>\n
  5. Lastly, the book is not in Comic Sans\u2014Mr. D\u2019s favorite font.\u00a0 [Lila: Yes, I\u2019m pleased to confirm it isn\u2019t. \ud83d\ude42 ]<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Here\u2019s what I *kept* in UNDONE<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

    1. A strong, smart heroine who has a heart-wrenching secret she\u2019s had to bear for a long time. She\u2019s guaranteed to tug at your heart.<\/li>\n
    2. A hero, Simon Boulenger, who is a tall, dark, and sinfully deliciously privateer. \u00a0The chemistry between him and Angelica is powerful.\u00a0 And distracting. He\u2019s on a deadly mission.\u00a0 And he isn\u2019t without his own inner torment. The things he\u2019s been involved in tortures his soul.<\/li>\n
    3. Intense emotion. UNDONE<\/strong> is the most emotional, passionate love story I\u2019ve ever written. These characters are flawed and real. Some readers and reviewers have found UNDONE<\/strong> so moving, it\u2019s made them cry, as they cheered on Simon\u2019s and Angelica\u2019s happily ever after.<\/li>\n
    4. My signature scorching hot love scenes. \ud83d\ude09<\/li>\n
    5. My favorite theme\u2014the healing power of love\u2014sure to bring a satisfying sigh when you finish the book.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      If you want something fresh and different, if you like extra heat in your historical romance novels, I hope you\u2019ll try my twist on Rapunzel\u2014UNDONE<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
