Fierce Highland war chief seeks comely lass for fun, frolic, and marriage
Marcus MacPherson is every inch the fearsome Highlander. He's used to men averting their eyes and women cowering before him. He thinks he'll eventually settle down with a nice, obedient bride. Instead, he gets Helen Grant... Stubborn as the day is long, fearless and dedicated to raising as much hell as possible, Helen is definitely going to challenge Marcus. And challenge him some more. And then some.
It's anyone's guess who'll win this battle of the heart...
Marcus MacPherson abducted Helen Grant all in the name of making peace between the clans. Helen is strong willed and beautiful. Marcus is not sure how to handle her at times. He makes a colossal mistake when he offers her to his men to see which one wants her. Helen is bruised by this and runs off to Court with her friend Brenda.
Marcus goes to Court under a different guise to get Helen back. He is held hostage by the Earl Morton who wishes him to marry a child-bride, Katherine. Marcus refuses and the earl enjoys his mental torture. Brenda and Helen are being held at Court as well. Once they learn that Marcus will be forced to marry the 14 year old girl, Helen and Brenda devise a plan to swap out Katherine for Helen.
The plan is executed flawlessly until Brenda is abducted back into the Earl’s clutches. Helen, Katherine and Marcus returns back to the MacPherson lands. Bhaic is thrilled to have his brother back safely and teases him relentlessly about not consummating the marriage. It’s his payback for Marcus acting like a jerk in the previous book when Bhaic had the same situation. I love how the two brothers interact.
Helen refuses to play wife to Marcus. She plans to get an annulment as soon as possible. Each day is more and more difficult to stay to her plan as Marcus makes some attempt to court her into their marriage. More danger occurs and Marcus makes it known that you will not mess with his wife.
I like this story. Marcus and Helen are the most stubborn people ever. They fight and pull leads to some steamy interludes. I wish they didn’t fight as hard because they clearly wanted to be together from the very start.
Katherine is going to make for a great heroine in the upcoming book. I look forward to reading her story. My heart felt sad as we learned all that the evil Earl put Brenda through. She got what she ultimately wanted by the end but I felt so bad for her as a woman.
Overall, this is a nice Highlander romance to satisfy an historical romance reader.
