“So attention must be paid. He’s not to be allowed to fall in his grave like an old dog. Attention, attention must finally be paid to such a person.”
-Death of a Salesman

In Death of a Salesman, Linda passionately believes that attention must be paid to her husband, Willy Loman (One of my favourite plays, btw). Well I, like Linda Loman, believe that there are many, many fabulous writers who have equally fabulous stories just waiting to be discovered by the masses. And every month I’m going to showcase one here on the blog. It will go something like this: for fans of (insert well known author of same genre), this (insert name of author flying the radar) is for you.

Do you have any authors whose books, in your opinion, aren’t reaching the reading masses the way they should? Let me know and hopefully your author will be featured here. πŸ™‚

  1. I’ll start off and say Sarah Mayberry, who writes category romances for Harlequin Blaze and Super Romance. There is such an emotional quality to her books. I love having my heart wrenched and she does it soooo well. Oh, and the tension and conflict in her books is fantastic. The Blazes are hot too!

  2. I’m a big fan of kathryn caskie. i LOVE her style of writing and highly suggest you start with rules of engagement lol. She only has a handful of books out but more coming!

I also like Jen Holling. i read a trilogy by her – historical romances in scotland, and theres a touch of magic to them. great great reads!! I can’t wait to get her next trilogy thats out now.

suzanne enouch i don’t think is an unknown but for some reason i don’t see her books in too many places. Same with emily bryan.

theres one woman who wrote an amazing pirate novel and i now can’t find anything else by her. this is driving me nuts. (I’ll find the one book i have by her lol and come back to comment again with her name)

  3. Oh, I have a long list starting with Carla Kelly. I will never understand why she’s not on all the bestseller lists. Others include Pamela Morsi, Jean Brashear, Jo Goodman, Anne Mallory. I’ll ditto Suzanne Enoch. I don’t think she gets nearly enough attention. Elizabeth Bevarly has written some of the best romantic comedies ever. I’m sure I’ll think of others.

I’m not sure Kathleen Gilles Seidel is still writing, but she wrote some of the best contemporary romances of all time. Talk to any of her fans and you will find they are passionate about the writing of this author. Till the Stars Fall is one of my top ten all-time romances.

  4. I’ll add some newer writers to the list too. Tessa Dare is fabulous and deserves every accolade and bit of attention that has come her way, as does Courtney Milan. I’d like to see other talented writers like Vanessa Kelly, Sara Lindsey, Kris Kennedy, and Maggie Robinson get more attention. I know The Season has done its part with these, but I’d like to see the news of their talent spread. πŸ™‚

  5. Whenever I get the chance, I sing the praises of Rose Lerner, who has a delicious historical voice and writes unique heroes and heroines, and of Caridad Ferrer and Jennifer Echols for wonderful YA romance.

  6. How about Dee Davis? I just recently discovered her books and they are terrific. I just finished her new trilogy and now I have to find her backlist!

  7. There are so many authors out there! I have found several new ones thanks to your site!

Ladies if you love Alpha males with redeeming qualities you must read, Emily Bryan’s Stroke of Genius. She is an amazing writer. History and humor sprinkled with sizzling romance. Love it!

  8. I’d like to give a heads up to Amanda Flower, author of MAID OF MURDER, her first published novel by Gale Cengage/Five Star Press. Amanda is a local author, here in northeastern Ohio. I bought and read the mystery cozy and found it refreshing, engaging, and very well written. It’s great first effort and I look forward to more of what she has to offer.

  9. I could go on and on, but I’ll narrow it down to just a few:

Lisa Cooke has some wonderful, witty, American set historicals that are soooo much fun.
Janet Mullaney. She is wickedly funny and very outside the box. Regency.
Elizabeth Bevarly–I think someone already mentioned her, but I’ll mention again. Love her stuff.
Susan Sey–new voice, very fun contemporary.

  10. Some of my faves that I don’t see mentioned nearly enough:

Romantic Suspense : Karen Rose; Amy J. Fetzer & Shiloh Walker (who also writes paranormal & some sizzling contemporaries)
Paranormal: Larissa Ione; Eve Silver/Eve Kenin & Jory Strong
Historical: Leanna Renee Hieber; Traci E. Hall; Stacey Kayne; Kate Bridges & Eve Silver
Contemporary: Susan Anderson; Bella Andre (also writes RS) & Carly Phillips

  11. now my tbr will be bursting some more…good thing I’ve started purchasing mostly ebooks! I can hide that much easier from my DH! LOL

  12. Oh I’ll 3rd Enoch and also add Elizabeth Boyle! See so many to go on an on about. πŸ˜›

  13. One author whose latest book, Highland Tresure, has just come out is Mary McCall. The author specializes in historical romance set in the Highlands of Scotland. Her works are full of humor and historical accuracy.

  14. I have several authors that I love – but they write SciFi Romance and not that many people enjoy that genre, or are willing to give it a try. I think more should, because it’s fantastic. The fabulous authors are Patti O’Shea, Ann Aguirre, Susan Grant and Linnea Sinclair. Some of Patti O’Shea’s books are listed as Paranormal Romance, but some are SciFi Romance as well.

  15. @Aemelia, I’m laughing at your list because as I look at your list, I’ve pretty sure some of those authors wouldn’t be considered ‘under the radar’.

  16. I gotta say that Nash delivers wonderfully deep characters mixed with rich Regency history. Also, she can crack me up! If you haven’t read her I can’t recommend her more.

  17. How about “Gayle Callen”? I’ve never heard of her till i picked up one of her books when my waldenbooks were closing. I know she’s written a lot, but i’ve never heard her talked about or mentioned.

Margaret Moore is another author i would say slides under the radar. She’s been writing romances for over 20 years. Most people seem to have no idea who she is or even heard of her.

  18. Tessa Dare, Sara Lindsey, Terri Brisbin, Jennifer Haymore, Cara Elliott, Amelia Grey, Shana Galen, Jackie Ivie, Jillian Hunter, Anne Gracie, Julie Anne Long, Gaelen Foley, Julianne MacLean, Tracy Anne Warren, Sarah MacLean, Teresa Medieros, Madeline Hunter, Liz Carlyle, Christine Wells, Meredith Duran, Kate Moore, Miranda Neville, Jennifer Ashley, Jess Michaels, Elizabeth Boyle, Kate Noble, Sarah Bennet, Anna Campbell, Deborah Mullins, Katharine Ashe and that is about all I have on my Amazon wish list through March 2011 πŸ™‚ So much to look forward to…….

  19. @Melissa~ I’ve read Margaret Moore & Gayle Callen for a long time. Margo Maguire is another good one…. could write these all night long……

  20. Hello all! I have a whole list of authors that are not that well known but are still excellent writers. Here are just a few:

    3) Tina Donahue: Titles include Lush Velvet Nights, Deep dark Delicious, and Adored
    4) Cindy Spencer Pape: Titles include Awakening Augusta, Dani’s Demons, and Stone And Earth
    5) J Hali Steel: Titles include Hard Case, Hope In Love, and Ace of Spades
    6) Anya Delvay Richards: Titles include Night of Cereus, The Pearl at the Gate, and Breaking Free(coming soon)
    7) Leah Braemel: Titles include Texas Tangle, Personal Protection and Private Property
    8) Selena Kitt: Titles include The Ride, The Song of Orpheus, and Sacred Spots
    9) Belinda McBride: Titles include Bad Angels: Falling, Bad Angels: Burn, and Bad Angels: Heaven
    10) Jess Dee: Titles include Only Tyler, Steve’s Story, and Risking It All

These are just a few of my favorite, somewhat unknown authors who I LOVED reading and some of their titles. If you want to check out these authors, then just type their names in any search engine. I also love Stacey Kayne. I hope you enjoy my list of fav authors!! Enjoy!! Happy reading everyone!! ;D

  21. Beth Trissel writes historical romances and historical paranormal romances for The Wild Rose Press. Her love stories will touch your heart. Eliza Knight is another writer flying under the radar. She writes sensual historicals for The Wild Rose Press and sexy stories of time-traveling Scots in kilts for The Wild Rose Press and Ellora’s Cave. I’ve read all her work, and I’ve never been disappointed.

  22. Shiloh Walker, Bella Andre (she is just getting alot more recognition lately), Jami Alden, and I’ve read a Sarah Mayberry book and agree she is good.

  23. I enjoy Jane Porter. Everything she writes is excellent. She has led me to several other authors—Liza Palmer, Megan Cane/Caitlin Crews and Mia King. They are all good.

  24. Though she doesn’t write romance stories, per se, I’m going to suggest Dolores Stewart Riccio. She has a series about an group of women, living in Plymouth, MA, who get together to ‘sip tea, trade stories, cast the odd spell and work a bit of magic’ as practicing Wiccans, but are ordinary people who have businesses and jobs and manage to solve the odd crime here and there. The first book is Circle of Five. I can’t recommend this series highly enough.

  25. I recommend Monica Burns. Her books are on the erotic side but her fiction is well written. The romance is HOT and plentiful.

    Ciao,

    Ardee-ann

  26. @Barbara I love Sci-Fi Romance and only wish I could find more. I’ve not read Ann Aguirre, but I love her books under her pseudonym Ava Gray SKIN GAME & SKIN TIGHT.
I’m also a huge fan of post-apocalyptic romances, but there aren’t very many out there Jory Strong’s GHOSTLAND and SPIDER-TOUCHED and Joss Ware just had a series come out, other than that, I’m drawing a blank_____o_O____

@Beverly …I know I know, they aren’t so “under the radar”, but darn it I still don’t think they’re talked about enough!!! :oP

  27. Normally, I just pop in and read and run, however, I had to add my two cent worth.

On the paranormal side, I have to add in Leslie Parrish. Some of you might know her by her “other” name, Leslie Kelly.

She has been writing a whole different type, for her, and flying under the radar which is unfortunate. Her books are wonderful!

The Black Cat trilogy were the first. And they were very good, very suspenseful and hot! Now she has Cold Sight out, the first in a series about paranormal/physic detectives. Very dark. Some difficult material. But damn well written, edge of your seat story with a great romance.

I hope the word gets out. I don’t want this series to end until it’s over.

  28. I like Janet Chapman. Her Highlanders have been brought forward in time. They are Alpha males and have made themselves at home in the northern Maine woods. There is a touch of magic in the series. She is branching out into other series and taking on other Paranormal characters.
I’ve enjoyed her books since finding her about 6 years ago.

  29. I fell in love with Erin Quinn this summer. Haunting Warrior’s cover was just too much of a killer for me to ignore. Before I read it, I “met” her on a chat and she was so nice and endearing. She said that I should read Haunting Beauty first to get the full grasp of the story line she was developing and I was immediately entranced. Her writing style is very sophisticated and refreshing. Now I’m so looking forward to her next one, Haunting Desire, which is coming out in March (I think).

Besides Erin Quinn, my other “new” authors that I recently discovered are Tessa Dare and Kris Kennedy, both were mentioned by Janga.

  30. I see several already mentioned I was thinking of – Jo Goodman, CarlaKelly, Kris Kennedy, Kate Noble, Vanessa Kelly, Eve Silver. Carolyn Jewel is another (Scandal one of my favorite books. Suzanne Enoch, too, and she’s gotten better the past couple of years I think. Catherine Kean for medievals. I see someone mentioned Emily Bryan, she wrote some Viking historicals I loved as Diana Groe, which didn’t seem to get as much attention at the time.

  31. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Julia Quinn & Louise Allen for historical romance they really can’t be beaten. Humor, intrigue, suspense, romance and dare a say it a little sex too. Fab Fab Fab ladies and my favorite authors on the planet.

    Emma

  32. Kaitlyn O’Connor and her cyborg series. I bought the first e-book book on a whim and loved it enough I had to buy the rest in the series. Definitely innovative and entertaining if you like science fiction romance. Vivian Arend deserves a mention too for her hot alpha wolves.

  33. I discovered Margaret Mallory this year. She wrote the All the Kings Men series…Knight of Desire, Pleasure and Passion books. They kept me up reading all night for a few weeks even though I had to go to work the next day.

  34. I would have to say romance authors Bonnie Lea Elliott and T. L. Mitchell. I enjoy their work and feel that more people need to see the wonderful paranormal romance novels they have written.
