Beth Cardall has a secret. For eighteen years, she has had no choice but to keep it to herself, but on Christmas Eve 2008, all that is about to change.

For Beth, 1989 was a year marked by tragedy. Her life was falling apart: her six-year-old daughter, Charlotte, was suffering from an unidentifiable illness; her marriage transformed from a seemingly happy and loving relationship to one full of betrayal and pain; her job at the dry cleaners was increasingly at risk; and she had lost any ability to trust, to hope, or to believe in herself. Then, on Christmas Day, as she rushed through a blizzard to the nearest 7-Eleven, Beth encountered Matthew, a strikingly handsome, mysterious stranger, who would single-handedly change the course of her life.

Who is this man, and how does he seem to know so much about her? He pursues her relentlessly, and only after she’s fallen deeply in love with him does she learn his incredible secret, changing the world as she knows it, as well as her own destiny.

I’d never heard of Richard Paul Evans or PROMISE ME before I was contacted about it. Of course, I immediately had to go look it up on Amazon to see if was some sort of thriller/suspense novel. As you can see–what a gorgeous cover btw–it is not. Then I read the back cover blurb and I was completely hooked. I want to know this secret–seriously want to know what this book is all about. Simon and Schuster gets 10 stars for leaving me this intrigued.

But for you, Simon and Schuster is giving away 5 (five) copies of PROMISE ME! And it’s a lovely hardcover but in size, is more like a trade. I gotta also give them 10 stars for presentation. Comment and you’ll be entered to win.

  9. Believe it or not my older son is the one who first introduced me to Richard Paul Evans when he gave me the book The Timepiece for my birthday. He said that he had picked it up on a “whim” because my father had given him an old family pocket watch and the book had caught his eye.

I was fascinated from the first paragraph and since than also got a chance to have another chance to enjoy this author when I watched one of his stories made into a movie.

I’m typically a historical romance reader but I think anyone that just enjoys “a good read” would enjoy this author.

  10. The first word that came to my mind when I read the excerpt was “intriguing.” After reading through the comments, I see that many others had the same thought. Please enter me in your giveaway. Thanks!

  13. Evans’s books have always been heart-warming, and sincere with a nice lesson. They are delightful to read particularly during this season. And this looks to be another intriguing novel. He has 3 great stories compiled in a book I own called, ‘The Christmas Box’ and I can’t wait to add this to my Christmas read list!

  14. This sounds like a good Christmas story. I read one of his books a long time ago called “The Christmas Box”. Nice.

  15. This book looks like a fun and magical read! And it’s set at Christmas too! I’ve never heard of this author before, thanks for bringing him to my attention.
And thanks for another wonderful giveaway!

  16. I love Richard Paul Evans. I started reading his books with his first A Christmas Box. An amazing and emotional read that continued with so many great stories. The Christmas ox was actually a story he wrote for his children as a gift and everyone who read it said he should consider getting it published. I won’t tell you the rest . That story on it’s own would make a great read. I highly encourage you to read his books because they are all amazing. Please count me in as well.
