Hi everyone,

Book #1

It’s wonderful to be here chatting about and celebrating the release of my third Southern Witch (SW) novel, HALFWAY HEXED .  For those not familiar with the series, it’s a blend of paranormal romance, mystery, and action/adventure. The main character, Tammy Jo Trask, is a young woman who’s descended from a long line of witches, but who didn’t seem to get a share of the family magic. In WOULD-BE WITCH (SW Book 1), however, Tammy finally comes into her powers. Unfortunately they don’t work properly, and all her spells go hilariously wrong. In BARELY BEWITCHED (Book 2), she learns why her magic malfunctions and taps into a different source of supernatural mojo.

Book #2

She also realizes along the way that her magic is synergistic with that of Bryn Lyons, a gorgeous lawyer/wizard to whom she’s majorly attracted. The trouble is that there’s a family prophecy that forbids her from interacting with anyone named Lyons, and this acts as a significant obstacle to their burgeoning romantic relationship.

As an author, it’s been a lot of fun to write the tug-of-war between Tammy Jo and Bryn when it comes to their romantic relationship. They’re powerfully attracted to each other, both magically and emotionally, and he wants to draw her as close to him as possible, but she has reservations.

Here’s a small excerpt of them together from the HALFWAY HEXED:

“We could prove it doesn’t have anything to do with you and me,” I said, my voice full of optimism.

“Even if it were theoretically possible to access the lost memories of lost souls, being able to draw out a specific memory? Extremely unlikely. The complexities of that kind of spell…”

“Right, but you’re brilliant, so you could probably write one that would work. Wouldn’t it be an interesting challenge for you?”

He laughed. “You’re about as subtle as a hurricane.”

“But what I lack in subtlety, I make up for in charm?” I asked with wide eyes.

“I’ll tell you what, I’ll do some research and I’ll think about it. If I decide it’s possible, we can negotiate what you’ll do for me in exchange for me writing the spell.”

“I could write recipes for thirty amazing desserts, better than anything you’ve ever tasted, and bring them over every day for a month.”

Bryn picked up the book. “That sounds very tempting, and yet somehow not likely to be what I’ll choose.” As he went up the ladder, I frowned at his back.

“I hope you’re not planning to—what’s the word I want?”

“Extort?” he offered innocently.

“Yes, actually.”

He smiled and put the Death book back on the shelf.

“I hope you’re not planning to extort things that shouldn’t be extorted,” I said.

He smiled. “What things are fair game for extortion?” he asked with mock curiosity.

“You know what I mean. Don’t pretend you don’t.” The man was a menace. A gorgeous menace, but still.

  1. This series is new to me and it sounds wonderful!

As for chemistry…Elizabeth & Darcy (of course!) plus Nick and Nora from the old 1930’s Nick and Nora movies with Myrna Loy and William Powell. Oh, and Daniel Day Lewis and Madeleine Stowe in “Last of the Mohicans.’

  2. Well I really love to watch/read chemistry between Bones and Cat from Night Huntress series and Brad and Angelina from Mr and Mrs. Smith…both couple are just so hot…LOL

  3. I love the chemistry between Colonel Clint Maroon (Gary Cooper) and Clio Dulaine (Ingrid Bergman) in the movie, SARATOGA TRUNK. Based on the novel by Edna Ferber.

  4. So many great combos but right now I’m remembering the wonderfully fun films starring Doris Day and Rock Hudson! And who can forget the sizzling chemistry between Rhett and Scarlett?

  5. Please do not enter me in this giveaway. I just wanted to say that I really love those fun covers.

  6. Hi everyone, thanks for visiting my post today.

Babs – Thank you! And I totally agree about Darcy & Elizabeth. (I just re-watched the BBC Pride & Prejudice miniseries last week.) I haven’t seen the 30s films, but will check them out through Netflix. Daniel Day-Lewis and Madeleine Stowe – I agree, fantastic chemistry!

Kacie – Yes, another famous funny red-head. I was given a Best of I Love Lucy DVD that I need to pop in and watch.

Marjana – The first Night Huntress book is on my TBR shelf. I’m looking forward to it. & I did love Brad and Angelina in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. If you like historical romance at all, Rita-nominated Shana Galen has a book that has a similar premise, but set in historical times. It’s not out yet, but I believe the title is going to be Lord & Lady Spy. I’m so looking forward to that.

Mel – I haven’t seen that one. I’ll have to check it out. I love old movies.

    Karen – I agree!

BRN Terri – Thank you! I think they’re great covers, too. The Berkley art department is fantastic!

  7. Darcy and Elizabeth, Cat and Bones are the ones off the top of my head. I know theres more, especially in romance.

  8. Cat and Bones for sure…Eve Dallas and Roarke, love those characters too.

And I must also add that I really love those covers, that’s a very talented artist.

  9. I loved the chemistry between Sawyer and Kate on LOST and Mulder and Scully on the X-Files. Currently, I like the chemistry between Peter and Olivia on FRINGE and the relationship between Castle and Kate on CASTLE.

  10. My first thought too was Castle and Beckett. Reminds me of the earlier Moonlighting. When it comes to books, I usually get attracted to the characters that I’m currently reading lol.

  11. From books I’d say Bones and Cat from Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series. On tv I’d say booth and Bones from Bones.

  12. There are so many . I usualy dont watch anything with no chemistry between the main characters. but of the top of my head ……….. Xfiles (molder and skully) , Saphire and steel , Top gun , Jumper and the list goes on.

  13. Great question! So many to choose from! Love the chemistry with Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth. Bones and Booth, Sookie and Bill, Sookie and Eric. Thanks for sharing today!

  14. I really love the covers of your books, and I have really been wanting to read this series, it sounds like a lot of fun. I loved the chemistry between Rhett and Scarlet.

    Best wishes,

    Chris

  15. I would have to say that the couple I love in books depends on which book I am reading. As far as couples on the screen, I would say that Vivian Leigh and Clark Gable in Gone With The Wind and Drew Barrymore and Dougray Scott in Ever After. I also loved Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball as well as Doris Day and Cary Grant.

  16. On TV I love Booth and Bones from Bones and in books I love Kate Daniels and Curran in Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series.

  17. Like Stephanie, I really love watching Booth and Brennan from Bones on tv… I also really loved Luke and Lorelei from Gilmore Girls, which despite being over for several years now, I still love to go back and read… When it comes to fiction, the interactions of Bryn and Tammy Jo (or Tamara, as he likes) is definately on the top of my list, but another suprising one would be that of Lyra and Will from the His Dark Materials trilogy… Although they are just children, the innocence of their relationship (which they don’t fully understand at first) is really touching to read about (the movie was really just awful).

  18. As a Southern Gal I am looking forward to reading these books !!

Great chemistry? How about Evie and Sebastian St. Vincent in Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas?

Or Wulfric and Christine in Mary Balogh’s Slightly Dangerous. Not many women could force a man to climb a tree to retrieve something of his that SHE threw up there and then proceed to argue with him WHILE he is up a tree. LOVE that scene!

Indiana Jones and ANY of the women in his life in the films!

And not in a romantic way, more filial, Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey, Jr.) and Dr. Watson (Jude Law) in the new Sherlock Holmes film! Great chemistry in all that bickering.

  19. This series is new to me but looks like something I would enjoy. I always liked the chemistry between Buffy and Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

  20. Darn it! Another author/series that is now added to my “to-read” list. These sound really fun! I have to agree with Babs, I love Nick and Nora in “The Thin Man” series (I have them all on DVD!) but how can you not love Fred and Ginger, or Cary Grant and most any leading lady (swoon)

  21. I loved Nick and Nora Charles’ chemistry in the Thin Man series. I didn’t even feel like I was watching a movie; the couple was so natural together.

  22. Well, since I don’t watch to much tv… I would say Bones & Booth from Bones! And he is so hot, so that makes it even more sweeter! Ohhhh please count me in! This is an awesome book! And in my books… Oh man, there are just to many!

  23. Hi Kimberly,

A very late welcome to the blog. 🙂 I’m going with Diane and Sam on Cheers and Sybil Sheppard and Bruce Willis on Moonlighting. Their chemistry made their shows fabulous!

  24. Hi Kimberly! Your books look wonderful! And what gorgeous and cute covers they have! I love books in which the heroine is a witch!

A couple that comes to mind with great chemistry is Scarlett and Rhett in GONE WITH THE WIND! And looking at the posts it seems many other people think so too! I also thought Tyrone Power and Gene Tierney had great chemistry in the movies they were in together. And Tyrone Power and Rita Hayworth in BLOOD AND SAND! Great movie and chemistry! This post is getting me in the mood to watch these old movies again!

I really enjoyed reading your blog post Kimberly and I’m glad you stopped by. 🙂

  25. In books I think Cat and Bones from Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series have wonderful chemistry. On television, Bones and Booth from the show Bones have great chemistry, even though they fight it.
I love the covers of your books, they’re unforgettable and truly stand out among all of the bare chests and half naked women.

  26. One of my most memorable movie combos are Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan from A Walk to Remember. This is one of my most favorite love stories and the way that Jamie captures Landon’s heart is beautiful!

    Thanks!
    kate

  27. Hawkeye and Cora from LAST OF THE MOHICANS are my all time favorite on screen. There is a quiet tension and desperation to their time together.

I read WOULD-BE WITCH and loved it. Had our library buy it for their collection and we got BARELY BEWITCHED too when it came out. I don’t work there any more, but I to check and make sure they get HALFWAY HEXED. Love the characters and the humor in your books. I hope there will be many more.

By the way, great covers. The cover is what first attracted me to WOULD-BE WITCH.

  28. Two of my favorite couples are James and Claire Fraser and Roarke and Eve from the In Death series by JD Robb. Love them. And the husband and wife from an old series from years ago called Topper.

  29. I agree with Babs on Nick Nora, and Daniel Day Lewis and Stowe. Another oldie, Emma Peel (Diana Riggs) and Steed from The Avengers TV series. Cat and Bones, yeah, hot together.

Hoping to get Halfway Hexed soon as I can. Ladies this is a real fun series you should get if you haven’t tried it yet. Poor Tammie Jo, problems with her magic and then that love triangle going on, rooting for her and Bryn.

  30. Hey, everyone:

I’m very late getting back to check in. (I’m throwing a cocktail party after my Saturday book signing, and I had an insane number of errands to run!)

You guys posted so many wonderful selections as examples of great chemistry; it made me want to go back and re-watch and re-read books and movies that I have in my collection! I’m also excited to read some of the books that were suggested that I haven’t read yet. There’s nothing like getting a recommendation from an avid reader. Thank you!

Also, thank you to the Southern Witch readers who stopped by to chime in about the series. I really appreciate it.

Anyway, thanks for having me at The Season For Romance. I really enjoyed being here. It’s a wonderful site! 🙂

    Happy Reading,
    Kimberly

  31. In books, my current favorites are Kate/Curran in the Kate Daniels series, and of course, Cat and Bones. I agree with the TV picks that have already been mentioned and I’ll just add one more – Stephanie Zimbalist and Pierce Brosnan in Remington Steele – that probably dates me since it was on in the 80’s I think? In TV or in the movies, a couple either has it right off the bat, or they don’t and it can’t be forced.

  32. Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail…. I love any movie they are together in.. they connect well! The sheer fact that they have been in more than one movie together shows how great they work together.
