BE MINE by Cynthia Eden

I love Valentine’s Day. The romance. The chocolate. J  Oh, the chocolate. But, Valentine’s Day is about more than just chocolate, right? It’s about love. About showing the person dearest to you just how much you truly care.

According to the American Greeting Card Association, the very first greeting card was sent way back in 1415. The sender was France’s Duke of Orléans. While he was being held in the Tower of London, he sent the card to his wife. What a nice story. Tell me…The Season is filled with history buffs, is this story true? It’s nice and romantic, so I’d certainly like for it to be true.  An imprisoned man sending his wife a letter of love is incredibly romantic.

You see, I love romance.  Ahem, that would probably be why I am a romance writer. I enjoy happy endings. Real life doesn’t always give us happy endings. In real life, there are ups and downs (and infamous towers…).  But in romance books, our endings are guaranteed.

In my current release, DEADLY HEAT, I set up some pretty powerful obstacles for my hero and heroine to overcome. They basically have to fight for their lives if they want the sweet reward of lasting love.  I guess you could say I made them work for their happy ending. But, I do promise—they get that ending.

So now I’d like to know…what are your big plans for Valentine’s Day?  Is there a special gift that you’d love to receive?  One random commenter will win a copy of DEADLY HEAT.

Best wishes (and happy Valentine’s Day!)

  1. My beloved is on an extended business trip so am hoping to get some Skype time with him on the actual day. Sharing the silliness of daily life and work from such vast distance and with each of us in totally different surroundings adds flavor and wackiness to our holiday conversations. So when he can’t be home, that is the holiday gift that I want.

  2. I’m honestly not sure what I am doing for Valentine’s Day. My husband told me to board the dog for the night so I’m hoping we will stay in a hotel. Because I don’t have any details my head is spinning with ideas! Probably something safe like dinner at a nice restaurant.

  3. No big plans for Valentine’s Day for me. The hubby and I don’t really celebrate it. So… but my little sister’s b-day is on the 15th, so we will probably do something big for her.

  4. No big plans. I’ll probably make a nice dinner and I know my husband will bring flowers for myself and our daughter. He’s sweet that way.

  5. Hi Cynthia! Congratulations on your new book DEADLY HEAT. I have read so many great reviews about this series, that I really can’t wait to read it.

No big plans for Valentine’s Day yet. We have a wedding in the family coming up this weekend, so between being busy with that and all the snow we have been getting it has been pretty crazy here.

  6. We don’t make much of Valentine’s Day. My hubby says that everyday is Valentine’s Day…hehe!!! Still, I usually get him a little something, his fav choccie or something. He’s is such a sweetheart.

  7. I don’t have any plans with the boyfriend for Valentine’s Day. He has to work so we are just going to go out to dinner tonight.

  8. Hi, Cynthia! Congrats on your release of Deadly Heat and your upcoming March release Deadly Lies.

You asked if it was true about France’s Duke of Orleans. I went to Yahoo questions and answers and the best answer was this. Still don’t know if it’s true or not, but this is what was there:

    European Valentine

A young Frenchman, Charles, Duke of Orleans, was one of the earliest creators of valentines, called “poetical or amorous addresses.” From his confinement in the Tower of London after the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, he sent several poems or rhymed love letters or “valentines” to his wife in France.

During the fifteenth century, one valentine showed a drawing of a knight and a lady, with Cupid in the act of sending an arrow to pierce the knight’s heart.

For Valentine’s Day, my DH always takes me out to dinner.

  9. My plans include going to my college classes and doing homework for the next day. I will find time to read a book to give me some time to celebrate.

  10. Enjoyed reading the comments. No special plans for Valentine’s Day, however, we are getting a new puppy. Yeah

  11. After 41 years the day itself is not usually a big deal but we are going to a valentine’s party this saturday so I’m thrilled!

  12. No special plans for Valentine’s Day this year. My women’s club actually has their monthly meeting scheduled that night. I wonder if the club president realizes what day it is. I’ll be curious to see how many show up. We are taking a week and a half to go to New Orleans the middle of March, and that will be our Valentine celebration as well as my husband’s birthday celebration.
We are working on a committee which is putting on a really nice dinner dance at church. We decorated tonight and will put it on tomorrow. The food will be great and it will be a nice time even if we are working.

  13. Congrats on the latest release, Cynthia. No special plans this year, but that my change; otherwise will be reading a book and munching on some good chocolate.

  14. I’m single with no SO to shower me with gifts, but that’s OK….me thinks I will buy myself a pretty little bauble os some sort. But nothing beats reading a good book, IMO! Except maybe a box of yummy chocolates next to the book!

  15. I don’t have any plans for Valentine… as it’s just me. But there is something I would love to get (besides books), sadly it can’t be bought or maybe that’s a good thing? So, dear God if your listening, send a cute (single) man my way. Thanks ever so much.

  16. We’ll probably stay in and share some wine and chocolate! I’m hoping I get my favorite perfume, Romance by Ralph Lauren, cause I’m just about out of it!

  17. No plans for me either. Hubby on deployment. I’d like to win a copy of DEADLY HEAT for Valentine’s Day. Now that would be special!
