Please welcome one of the fabulous reviewers who review for The Season and is making her debut…KARYN GERRARD!

THE APPEAL OF TIME TRAVEL

Time Travel as a plot device for either TV, movies or books, seems to ebb and flow in popularity. But the concept itself is fascinating and always appealed to me. Visiting different periods in time, the romance and adventure of being caught up in another era.

My ebook novella debut, TIMELESS HEART, has its origins believe it not, from a dream. I was in my late teens and was watching a BBC period drama series called POLDARK. British actor Robin Ellis who played Poldark, was in my dreams every night, a teenage crush to be sure. But one night, I dreamt Poldark travelled through time, and I found him. Took him home.  Needless to say, the dream was very graphic, real and wicked, considering I was a naive and innocent teen.  I always had a vivid imagination. The dream had such an impact on me, it stayed with me all these years.

When I decided to try my hand at an erotica/romance, the dream that never left me was insistent that it be a tale to be told. How could two people from different eras cross the chasm of time to find love, happiness? The essence of my story is two people, seemingly lost, adrift for different reasons, find what is missing in their lives, in each other. Can they reach across ‘oceans of time’, throw out that lifeline and rescue one another?

Sandra Cranston, an elementary teacher on leave, discovers an abandoned carriage deep in the woods. Inside is a man, Jerrod Ross, who fuels all of her wicked Regency dreams and fantasies.

Ross has been torn from the only world he has ever known—1821 Cornwall, England. How will he adjust to the future and his growing desire for the lovely lady who found him? More importantly, how will he ever return to his time?

**Click title or cover to purchase from Amazon or Evernight Publishing, respectively.

My hero is from 1821, Jerrod Ross brings with him all that era encompasses, he is a gentleman, honorable. Passionate. And yes, he looks like he stepped off a historical romance cover. Everything the heroine is looking for in a man. But he doesn’t like 2011, he wants to go home. Chasms of time can be great indeed.

In all time travel movies or books, the big decision comes. Does the person stay in the future, or the other person go back to the past with the time traveller? Is love enough to make such a sacrifice? Personally, as much as I loved the guy, could I go back to 1821? No electricity? No flushing toilets? No Ipod Touch?

Tell me, could you do it? If a 6’2 hunk of Regency virile hotness held out his masculine hand and said, ‘Come with me’, with that deep come-to-bed voice, would you go? Why or why not?

Answer the question and you will be entered for a chance to win a PDF copy of TIMELESS HEART.

  1. Yeah, I would probably go with him back in time. If I really cared for/loved him, I would go any place or time to be with him.
BTW, this sounds like a really interesting book. Best of luck with it!

  2. At this point in my life, no way! Too many responsibilities that I cannot just leave behind. But as a young woman whose life is still pretty much a blank slate — I think it would be an incredible adventure. But even then I’d like the option to time travel back and forth.

  3. I’d like to go back to see what it was like at that time….but I wouldn’t want to stay there! I like my modern conveniences too much.

BTW, talk about a ‘Twilight’ moment (insert Twilight TV show themesong here), I just put Poldark in my Netflix queue about 10 minutes ago.

  4. I probably wouldn’t go. I’m not easily convinced to follow people. It would be nice to stumble upon a handsome man while time travelling though. I love the idea, but I don’t think I could survive in the past. It would be difficult for me.

  5. Thanks June! It was fun to bring my long ago dream to life, it would be a heck of a sacrifice, but if you loved the guy enough, it just may be worth going back to 1821! Thanks for commenting~

  6. Susan, at this point in my life, it might be tempting, but wow you would have to give up a lot. Good point about the clean slate. I like your option! If I could travel back and forth, I would go with the regency hunk in a heartbeat, thanks for commenting!

  7. Karen, I am with you on the modern conveniences, I think the days spent in 1821 could get boring really fast, not the night though, I bet! Oh wow, Poldark is on Netflix? I hope you enjoy it, one of my favorite BBC costume drams from the 1970’s. ‘Dr. Dwight Enys’ is also rather yummy.

  8. Jennie, you make valid points. I think one thing that would also deter me would be the ‘bleeding with leeches’ medical care back then. Ewwww. Thanks for commenting~

  9. Heck yeah I’d go. I would of course expect said hunk to provide me with a well stocked library. He’d also have to accede to my terms of social equality and accept the fact that I’m an educated and self-sufficient woman and not some simpering miss.

  10. Count me in for doing it! I love adventures. Just think of the things you can invest in that haven’t been invented yet.

  11. Congratulations on your debut release! The cover is lovely and the story sounds very interesting.

I think that I would probably choose not to go back in time. First because I always think – what if I accidentally change something and it has a tremendous impact on either my or my societies existence in the future. Second because I would miss the techonological advancements that I’m used to – better medical care, the internet, televesion and ebooks, a refrigerator, air conditioning, an electric stove and a microwave – just to think of a few things. Third because women in the past didn’t enjoy the freedoms that women today experience.

Now if the hunk wants to stay with me in the present – picture me happy:)

  12. beyondjenna, the adventure aspect has real appeal, doesn’t it? And true enough! Leave a will to tell future generations to but stock in Coca-Cola! Thanks for commenting!

  13. Thanks Maria!

The cover is lovely, isn’t it? Designed by Dara England.
Ooo, the ‘Back to the Future, space time continuum conundrum! Yes, the slightest alteration in events affecting everything! I would miss everything you mention as well. I can’t picture a maid trying to get me in one of those corsets. The lack of freedom would also be a strike against. Which also encompasses the corset!

But oh yeah. Regency hunk staying in present? Good plan! Thanks for commenting!

  14. I don’t have a great many things tying me down here, so I’m inclined to shrug and say, “Why not?” It’ll be an adventure! Especially if I can add a “able to return” clause. 😉

  15. Ohhh. Um, depends on how crazy the kids are making me that day. 🙂 Seriously though, I would be tempted if not for the romance then for the chance to experience life during the Regency period.

  16. If I didn’t have a husband, I sure would. 😉 Your book sounds great. Love time travel stories.

  17. Heck yeah! That is a no-brainer. LOL. I love time travel romances. Timeless Heart sounds lovely Karyn!

  18. I would have done it in a moment when I was young and unattached. With my health problems, I probably wouldn’t have lived very long back then. but the time would have been well spent with my beIoved time travelling hero.

  19. Julie, I think a ‘return clause’ is a great idea. I thought I would always love to travel through time, but to be stuck in one particular era? Eeek. Thanks for commenting!

  20. Crystal, I agree, husbands are an impediment to such a proposition as running off with a time traveling Regency hunk! Thanks about the book, I love time travel~Thanks for commenting!

  21. Stacie, thanks so much! I really love time travel romances as well! Glad you would go off with the Regency hunk, I promise you, your nights will not be boring, LOL!

  22. Cathy, That would be a draw back to me as well. Catch a cold back then, first thing you know, you’re dead from consumption. Time well spent, indeed!
    Thanks for commenting!

  23. I don’t think Hubby would approve if I left! Then, too, I agree with Estella–I like my modern amenities.

  24. I am not sure wheather I would do it or not. I would really hate giving up our modern things. But to have that kind of love it might be worth it.

  25. I love how you always feature new authors for us to get to know. Congrats on the release. I would go. When are you ever going to to get a chance like that?

  26. Hehehehe. Weeellllll, it would be tempting but 1821 is so NOT a time I could or would want to live in. As a historical romance author, I will romanticize it but I also know the hard realities and that will trump lust any day. 🙂

Congrats on the release, Karyn!!! I’m excited about your debut for you. I know you’ll do great!

    Bev

  27. LOL Avery! Escape from the kiddies, that’s a great reason! But true, seriously, I would be curious to see that era as well. Permanently? Meh, not sure. Thanks so much for commenting~

  28. Bev, hard realities could trump lust, that’s for sure. 1821 would be tough. I think the consensus is most would only go back if they could return to the present at a later time, I think that would be my wish. They rest say no way, no matter how hunky, romantic, virile or stunning the hero is. Bummer, LOL!

Thanks so much for having me here today Bev, it was fun~And thanks about my debut! I am still stunned it happened~but oh so gratified~

  29. In a heartbeat! I wouldn’t even think twice. Think of what you could do with all that 6’2 hunk of Regency virile hotness. Those hands! No running water? No electricity? No flushing toilets? Oh current century, you’ve spoiled me. Unless he and I fall in love or he’s in a blue police box, the final answer would be: no.

  30. I think I would. If I really loved the person & the relationship has developed to the point of making a decision on commitment.

  31. Kati R,

It would be a hard decision, we are so spoiled. Just the thought of dragging water up flights of stairs to put in a tub…unless hunky Regency hero was IN the tub waiting!

    Thanks for commenting!

  32. I’m having not so great a week and need some fun and excitment, so yeah I’ll go with him.

  33. I might be tempted to go and visit for a day (so he could pick up his stuff 🙂 ), but I would not go back to live permanently – no running water or flush toilets, bad air, bad food and bad health care. I’ve had to use biffies (outhouses) when camping or when the power is off at the cottage and would not want to have to do that on a permanent basis.

  34. Congrats Karyn! I don’t know if I would travel back in time. Couldn’t he stay in modern times with me? LOL.

  35. Lynnd, I think a temp visit appeals to just about everyone, long enough for him to pack those skin tight breeches! It would be a lot to give up, major sacrifice. I have used an outhouse a time or two, all I can say is ewww. To do that on a permanent basis, no. thanks for commenting~
