by Kat Latham

My husband finished his PhD! And he passed without having to make any corrections!

I’m clearly married to a genius, and that puts me in a celebratory mood. I’ve asked several friends—including the incredible Beverley Kendall—to stop by over the coming month and help me celebrate by giving away books.

After four looong years of hard work, and hours (hours HOURS) at the British Library, my husband can finally put Dr in front of his name.

Four years might not seem that long, but think about what the world was like in 2007:

  • Twitter (aka my best friend in the whole wide world) was only a year old.
  • The first Kindle was released on November 19, 2007 (yes – everyone read paper books).
  • There was still a chance Dennis Kunisich could be president (okay, admittedly it was a small chance).

This blog party will appeal to your hearts and your minds.

To celebrate, every week in August I’ll have an interview with a brilliant romance novelist who debuted in the last four years. We’ll be giving away some of their books, and I’ll also be giving winners one of the novels my husband wrote about in his PhD – some of the best American literary fiction of the 1980s (yes, there was good litfic in the 80s. Promise.)

You don’t want to miss interviews with these amazing authors:

Ashley March

Kaki Warner

Beverley Kendall

Louisa Edwards

Rose Lerner

So make sure you subscribe to my blog, follow me on Twitter, or like me on Facebook.

And thanks for helping me celebrate! I hope to see you on my blog on Monday, August 1st!

Bev: I hope you’ll pop on over and help celebrate with Kat and her husband. 🙂 But that’s not all for this post. You know me, I have to give somebody something.  Today it’s an ARC for the September release of Leigh Michael’s THE WEDDING AFFAIR. Comment to enter to win. 🙂

  15. Congrats to your DOH on his PhD. I know how hard they can be – my sister-in-law took 10 years and never got the degree! Her creditors expired while she was trying to defend her research. I think she just liked being a student. Does he already have a job? If not, good luck!!

  16. Kat, a BIG congratulations to your husband. It is no easy task to finish that doctorate. Our daughter is looking at starting hers, but it will be a few years. She finished her Masters a little over a year ago and just had a baby in June. She needs to recover from both, get on with her job, as well as pay down those college loans before she can seriously start that long, hard road.

You have thought of a wonderful way to celebrate.

  17. Congratulations to your husband! That’s wonderful. My husband wrote his Master’s thesis on our first computer with the manual in his lap! This was in the early 80’s. I was proud of him, too. 🙂

  23. Congrats to your husband. My friend’s daughter is getting her Phd and I hadn’t realized just how long it takes. It’s quite an accomplishment.

  24. Congrats Dr. Latham! That is such an awesome thing. My hubby has 3 more years on his PhD program. 🙂

What a great way to celebrate!

  25. Congratulation to Dr. Latham! It takes a lot of dedication (and a caring wife) to be able to reach the goal of a PHD! When I was attending college I also had a job in the Department of Plant Pathology at the University of Arizona working as a secretary and typing out texts written in German into English. The only reason I got the job was because I took 4 years of Latin in High School! The dedication, work and hours they all put in made me realize the dedication needed to reach one’s goals.

I’m so excited that Leigh is writing historical romance now. Her contemporary books are wonderful and it wasn’t unitl I checked her website that I realized that she had released The Mistress’ House earlier this year. I’m definately picking up a copy before The Wedding Affair is released!

  26. Thanks, everyone, for your congratulations and kind words! It’s certainly been a relief to have his PhD finished so he can now concentrate on job-hunting.

The first interview is up on my blog today! It’s with Ashley March, and she’s giving away a copy of her September release, so I hope you’ll stop by to visit. http://wp.me/pCtNR-pR
