destinyscaptive

In national bestselling author Beverly Jenkins’ Destiny series, the Yates men play hard and live hard. And when they find that special woman, they fall hard . . .

Noah Yates fully believes in the joys of a happy family and a good wife. But that’s not the life for him. No, he would much rather sail the wild seas in search of adventure, not tied down. But then the unthinkable happens . . . he finds himself literally tied down. To a bed. By a woman.

And Pilar isn’t just an ordinary woman. She’s descended from pirates. And after giving him one of the worst nights of his life, she steals his ship! Now Noah is on the hunt, and he’ll stop at nothing to find this extraordinary woman . . . and make her his.

Pilar Banderas have been fighting for her island’s independence since she was a child. Her rebel father died for the cause and Pilar is doing everything she can to keep her poor family afloat. She makes a trip to Havana, Cuba to steal a boat to do her business for the gunrunners. She eyes the beautiful Alanza and captures it immediately. She just didn’t expect to run into its dangerous and handsome owner.

Noah Yates is furious that a tiny female pirate stole his boat and his belongings. He vows to find her and make her pay for taking what’s his. He hatches a plan when he gets back home to California to attend his mother’s wedding. Heading back to Cuba, he finds out the identity of his pirate.

Pilar and her family are in Florida visiting her uncle when she comes face to face with Noah Yates. He did promise her that he would find her. Now, the owner of the Alanza is making good on his threats. Pilar just didn’t expect for Noah to propose marriage to her as his punishment.

The series has come to an end and Noah and Pilar is a perfect match. The way they circled each other with swords at her Uncle’s house, both ready to fight, was a great to start off their relationship. I didn’t expect for Noah to just forgive Pilar after what she did to him. I thought he would have held onto some of his anger but after their sword fight, he just melted at the sight of her.

Pilar is this great, strong-willed, independent woman who has never been courted by a man. Her only cause has been the fight for her country but that all disappears once they go back to Noah’s home in California. She settles into her married life fairly easily and that is the end of the story. I became slightly disappointed because I expected her and Noah to ride the ocean and fight the cause. Instead, he is eager to stop sailing the world and she put her rapier down to play housewife.

Noah is a good guy who was abducted at the age of 18 and sent into servitude on the sea for two years. There are things that happened to him in the past which affects his relationship with Pilar. It all comes out very quickly towards the end and I thought there would have been a better resolution to it.

Overall, I’m pleased to know what happened to the other characters in the series and as always Beverly weaves historical facts so delicately and smoothly into her romances, that I’m glad for the quick history lessons.
